Switch On

Commercial digital radio services are now on at full power in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. The services switched throughout May 2009.

Commercial radio digital radio services in Sydney are now on air in DAB+ at low power. It anticipated that higher powers will start from around 12 July 2009 with the power levels variable for a few days while interference to analogue TV, if any, is assessed and remediated. ABC and SBS commenced digital services at low power in Sydney and Melbourne on 1 July.

With digital radio all you need is a digital receiver or a device with a DAB+ chip in it and that’s it – no subscription fees, no messing about with signing up or logging on, just tune in.

Australia is ahead of countries like Germany, Italy and China in adopting DAB+, a superior new technology that will enable radio stations to multichannel as well as broadcast a variety of multimedia, data and interactive programming – all free to air.

You will need a new radio to tune into digital radio and these will be available from partner retailers listed on the 'Find Retailers' search function from May. Simply type in your postcode to see where your local digital radio stockist is.
